Fear-driven society

I can't remember who wrote this, or when, but I came across it just now while browsing through some of my notes. Its a heart-warming little piece.

"Tonight on Eyewitness Action News Channel 3-5-13 at 10: The bird flu is coming, and it's going to kill your children unless you watch the ads during our broadcast. Police are investigating two new murders tonight, and experts say that keeping your kids indoors is the safe bet. Plus, our I-team shows how your children are having online orgies with hundreds of sex predators at a time on MySpace, all without leaving home. And don't miss our newest weather radar, which will show you whether or not a tornado is going to kill you (and your children) over the weekend!

Fuck, I'm really getting tired of living in a fear-driven society. Can someone please wake all of the SUV-driving soccer moms out of their Xanax-induced comas and inform them that their kids are not, in fact, under attack from the entire world? And if you manage to accomplish this, while you're at it, I'd appreciate it if you'd let them know that taking care of their kids is their job, not the government's; and that taking care of other peoples' kids is decidedly not their job."

I guess there isn't lots of interest in preserving rational thought by the look of the amount of activity here on the blog.
